WebWorkbench provides a web browser based user interface for accessing the Workbench database. It has additional server requirements over the standard Workbench server installation.
Server Operating System
The WebWorkbench server operating system should be:
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Server 2012 R2
.NET Framework
WebWorkbench requires at least .NET framework 4.5.2. This is not included with Windows 2008 or 2012 R2 and will need to be downloaded and installed separately.
Internet Information Services (IIS)
IIS is the built-in Web Server included with Windows Server Operating Systems. WebWorkbench is compatible with the following versions:
- IIS 7.5
- IIS 8.0
- IIS 8.5
Hardware Requirements
IIS can run on the same server as the SQL Server and/or the Workbench Server, however, it is recommended to host IIS on it's own separate, secure, server if WebWorkbench is made accessible from the internet.
Recommended specifications for a stand-alone IIS Web Server:
- 4+ Cores Intel Xeon E5-2600 v1 series (and above) or similar AMD Processor *
- 4GB+ DDR3 / DDR4 RAM (recommended: 8GB+)
- Hard Disk OS + Application > 70GB (recommended: RAID 1 SSD)
- 2 Network Cards
- Redundant Power Supplies
* Cores are specified as Workbench can run on a Virtual Machine.
SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
WebWorkbench requires SSRS to render reports in the web browser. In most cases SSRS is installed on the same host as the SQL Server, although it may also be installed on a separate server if using non-Express versions of SQL Server.
WebWorkbench can work without SSRS being setup except users will not be able to view reports via the web browser.
See the Microsoft SQL Server section information about SSRS requirements..
Workbench Version
WebWorkbench requires Workbench version of at least 7.33.5.
PowerShell
PowerShell v2.0 should be usable by the Workbench administrator.
