WebWorkbench, comprising the web-based components of Workbench, has additional server requirements.

Internet Information Server (IIS)

IIS is included with the various Windows Server operating systems and WebWorkbench will work with the following versions:

  • IIS 6.0
  • IIS 6.5
  • IIS 7.0
  • IIS 7.5
  • IIS 8.0
  • IIS 8.5

IIS 7.0 or later is recommended.

.NET Framework

WebWorkbench requires at least .NET framework 4.0 on IIS.  This comes with the Windows Server 2008 OS (version 4.5 with Windows Server 2012) but for Windows Server 2003 it may require additional installation.

Server Operating System

The IIS operating system should be:

  • Windows Server 2003 (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • Windows Server 2008 (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2012 R2

Windows Server 2008 (or later) is recommended.

Hardware Requirements

Although IIS can run on the same server box as SQL Server, it is recommended that a separate appropriately specified server box be used for the WebWorkbench web server.

  • Quad/Xeon Intel core or similar AMD Processor > 2.5GHz (recommended: 2 Quad Core 2.7GHz)
  • DDR2/3 > 4GB Ram (recommended: 16GB)
  • Hard Disk OS + Application > 70GB (recommended: RAID 1 + 0 250GB 10k rpm SCSI/SAS)
  • 2 Network Cards
  • Redundant Power Supply
  • Backup Interface
  • Reporting Server

Reporting Server

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is packaged with each version of SQL server and can be one of the following:

  • SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2008  (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Services (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2008 R2  (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2012 Express with Advanced Services (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2012  (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2014 Express with Advanced Services (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • SQL Server 2014  (32 bit and 64 bit)

SSRS is often deployed on the same server as SQL Server, but can be on it's own server.  In that case it is possible, for example, to run SQL Server 2005 for the Workbench database, and SQL Server 2008 for Reporting Services.

SQL Server 2008 R2 or later is recommended.
