Web Workbench provides a web browser based user interface for accessing the Workbench database. It has additional server requirements over the standard Workbench server installation.

.NET Framework

Web Workbench requires at least .NET framework 4.68. 2.  This This is not installed by default before Windows Server 2016 2022 and will need to be downloaded and installed separately. 

Internet Information Services (IIS)

IIS is the built-in Web Server included with Windows Server Operating Systems. Web Workbench is compatible with the following versions:

Staring from version 4.2 Web Workbench now has a Report Server Local Mode that removes the need for SSRS to render web reports. With this mode turned on, the web application renders the reports locally with Microsoft ReportViewer Controls.

Web Workbench requires SSRS to render reports in the web browser. In most cases SSRS is installed on the same host as the SQL Server, although it may also be installed on a separate server if using non-Express versions of SQL Server.

Workbench MDE Version

Web Workbench requires Workbench database schema (MDE version of at least ) version must be updated to 7.4041.23.0 before Web Workbench can be installed.

PowerShell

PowerShell v5.0+ is required by the Workbench administrator for deployment.

Web Workbench is a .NET web application. A public domain name and a valid web certificate are required to enable secure HTTPS protocol that allows secure external access to Web Workbench on public networks. For on-premise installations, It it is up to client IT to organise and manage the domain name and certificate, as well as the network infrastructure that directs user requests to the web server.
